You can only judge on experience, but have to take factors into consideration. Yes, it is sometimes difficult to get an appointment but you will always be seen if you find yourself needing a doctor on a particular day. I agree with the previous review that some doctors are more in demand and this brings its own difficulties but if you are suffering with a genuine health concern then you can be seen by another doctor, this problem only arises due to personal preference. I myself have issue with one doctor in the practice for reasons I would not indulge but this does not mean that the said doctor is incompetent or incapable. The staff are always helpful and often patients can prove to be very difficult and no matter what your issue there is no need to be abusive, they are doing the best they can in difficult circumstances. The NHS is pushed to its limits and people should take heed of the fact they live in a country where healthcare is free. The nurses are excellent and I cannot fault them in anyway and the pharmacy staff are great.The only issue I would urge them to look at is the way prescriptions are dealt with, there seems to have been a change of late which is leading to so many not being signed, ready on time or missing.Overall you have to take into account the strain that has been put on the health service and praise the efforts of all those who are trying to keep it afloat.
I actually hate having to use this doctor surgery. Appointments are only released once weekly and if you can't call down when they get released then you're screwed if you need to see a doctor.
I hear so many complaints about this Health Centre, not all of which are, in my opinion, accurate or true. I dont think it helps staff morale to have a lot of negativity. If so many people are unhappy about things, I wonder if they contact the practice manager or other staff to discuss matters or do they simply moan and do nothing? Doing nothing doesnt help. Here are my views for what they are worth. The Doctors and Nurses do a great job, under what I am sure are difficult circumstances. Whitburn has grown a lot in population size in recent years, so each Doctor has a large number of patients to see. There seems to be a culture of certain Doctors being more popular than others and so they are more difficult to get an appointment for. I feel this in turn can lead to poorer continuity of care, if for instance a person has chronic ill health or a few different health problems,and needs to see a Doctor frequently. I have encountered these issues and feel that poor continuity of care has happened to me recently, through not being able to see the same Doctor. However, I am trying to sort things out now by myself by trying to communicate better with Doctors. Communication is a two way process, and we the public need to be mindful of this. There is no need to miscall Doctors by generalising and saying they are all rude and do nothing, for that is not true. I would agree that sometimes it is difficult to get through on the phone. I myself have encountered this problem sometimes. On the other hand, a few times I got through on the first ring so its a bit about your luck on the day I would say. Even if you cant get through to get an appointment, if you can manage to get to the Health Centre, emergency appointments are always available. I believe these operate on a triage system and a persons case is prioritised by the nature of their ailment. I myself have experienced a life threatening illness, a few years getting over the treatment of it, various complaints regarding my joints, and severe pain. I have attended this Health Centre for four years, and had many, many appointments, so I am very grateful to all of the Doctors and Nurses for the service they provide. I have always managed to get an appointment and been treated in a courteous, professional manner. My only negative views would be about some, not all,of the Receptionist staff. One or two seem to lack politeness and a professional manner, so perhaps some training would benefit them. Apart from that I would like to express my appreciation to this Health Centres staff and I hope that the comments I have made are fed back to the Doctors and staff, and the Practice Manager too. Staff helpful & courteous, nurses always friendly & kind, doctors offer a caring service and do listen. They dont always get it right first time, neither do I, but they care enough to keep trying. Theyve helped me too many times lately and Im very grateful and appreciative of their work. Thank you.
